CALIFORNIA — Canada has long been a hotbed for the sport of MMA, and Team Iridium boss Jason House says the future is bright for the sport north of the border.
So much so, in fact, that Iridium has invested large amounts of time and resources recruiting Canada's next generation of UFC superstars. The investment has already paid dividends.
Fighting up a weight class and on short notice, Tristan "Boondock" Connelly burst onto the international scene with a victory over Michel Perreira in 2019. His teammate, top Canadian bantamweight Cole Smith, is working hard to establish himself as a major force in the UFC's 135-pound weight class.
"Aside from being one of my favorite countries to visit, Canada has historically been home to some of the sport's finest athletes," says House. "Guys like Georges St-Pierre, Patrick Cote, Rory MacDonald and many others have helped pave the way for the next generation of Canadian MMA superstars. We're extremely proud to represent Tristan Connelly and Cole Smith, who are both a pleasure to work with and quickly establishing themselves as major contenders in the UFC's Octagon.
"We also couldn't be more excited about the rest of our Canadian Contingent waiting on deck. Jared Revel (10-2), James Siraj (8-2), Achilles Estremadura (6-0), Lupita Godinez (4-0) and Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels (4-0) are all eager and ready to join Cole and Tristan in repping 'The Great White North' the international stage."
