CALIFORNIA — Team Iridium contender Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels has established herself as one of the most exciting prospects in the world of women's MMA. After four impressive stoppage victories, the young Canadian flyweight is ready to take the next step in her career in 2020.
How have you been doing throughout all this?
These have been some crazy times, but I have kept myself busy. With not working full time, I have been able to focus more of my time in being present with my training. Usually I am rushing from work to get to training or driving at 5 am to a session before work. I’ve used this time to really slow down and enjoy life.
Is there anything you're more excited to do than step back in that cage?
I have always enjoyed sports and adrenaline of any kind. I recently bought a dirt bike and have really enjoyed learning and pushing my limits. I don’t look forward to anything more than stepping back into the cash, except getting a good doughnut, especially with a coffee.
(Laughs) How's it going to feel to get back in the cage, after that doughnut and coffee?
When I go back into the cage, it’s going to be big. I am 4-0 and have been working hard these past two months, learning and grinding each session. It’s going to feel great to challenge myself again. I love having a goal and chasing it.
What would you like to accomplish in the next 12 months?
I would like to take the next step. I believe that is the UFC. I am the top Canadian prospect; I've worked hard with four finishes and I have proved I am a great addition to the flyweight division.
